Web Sites

The following Web sites are locations that you can visit to get immediate information and help related to your Tablet PC. Note that I looked at numerous sites that are not in this list, as I only wanted to give you the sites that had the most value and that I feel are long-term players. Of course I'd prefer you go to MY site...

Tablet Guru

www.TabletGuru.com

This is my site, which will supplement this book. At the site, you will find discussion forums about Tablet PCs, product reviews, current news, and comparisons of various hardware and software. There will also be some hands-on training offered, as well as online video training courses (eventually).

If you like what you have in your hands, this site will be more of the same and then some. As the Tablet PC technology advances, I will be there to walk you through the updates and help you through the maze of hardware and software choices that develop.

Because you bought this book, you will have access to some items free of charge that I normally charge people for. Use the code ABGTPC in order to get access to special products.

Microsoft Tablet PCs

www.microsoft.com/tabletpc

This is the Tablet PC Web site from Microsoft. Because Microsoft provides the operating system for all Tablet PCs, it has some good information about what the Tablet PC is all about, as well as about some of the partners with whom Microsoft has joined to make the Tablet PC successful. In addition, Microsoft includes case studies and general Tablet PC related news.

Following are a few specific spots on the Microsoft Tablet PC site that are helpful.

Downloads for the Tablet PC

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/tabletpc/downloads/default.asp

Most of the downloads found here are free, and add functionality to the Tablet PC. Some of these are discussed in Chapter 13, "PowerToys for Tablet PC," and others in Chapter 18, "Useful Software."

Office XP Pack for Tablet PC

http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/oxptp.aspx

This is where you should go to add inking capabilities to Office XP, or to add additional Outlook integration to Windows Journal.

PowerToys for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/tabletpc/downloads/powertoys.asp

This site offers lots of applets that improve productivity and provide entertainment.

Tablet PC Newsgroup

http://communities.microsoft.com/Newsgroups/default.asp?ICP=windowsxp&sLCID=US&newsgroup=microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc

This newsgroup is one place to go to discuss the Tablet PC.

Tablet PC Product Information

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/tabletpc/evaluation/default.asp

This is a helpful part of Microsoft's Tablet PC site if you want to learn more about how other organizations use the Tablet PC.

Tablet PC Developer

www.tabletpcdeveloper.com

You'll find this to be a good site if you're interested in creating applications for the Tablet PC. It discusses .NET and development practices. Some sample code and applets are available, as well as development news and links.

Tablet News

www.tabletnews.com

This site keeps track of the happenings in the Tablet PC world, and also keeps up with the latest Tablet PC models available. It has only a few software applications listed, but has a plethora of reviews of various applications and Tablet PCs.

Tablet PC Talk

www.tabletpctalk.com

This is one of the better sites. I like the news update, where you can subscribe to Tablet PC related news items in email form. The site offers interviews with and feature stories about people who use the Tablet PC. It also has a good newsgroup section, and a section that compares all Tablet PCs. As I said, it's one of the best sites (although its design is lacking in some regards).

Tablet PC Buzz

www.tabletpcbuzz.com

Tablet PC Buzz is another news-based site with some custom content centered on a newsletter. You'll find a forum here as well.

Tablet PCs

www.tabletpcs.net

This site has many of the elements common to other sites (though lighter on content), and has an appealing design as well.

802.11 Hot Spots

www.80211HotSpots.com

This site has information about public and private wireless access points around the world. If you're in a good-size city, you may have some options for connecting to the Internet from your favorite coffee shop or restaurant, as well as at some hotels and other places; 802.11 Hot Spots can help you find those places.

Node DB

www.nodedb.com

If you're in a major metropolis, chances are there are Wi-Fi access points in your city. If so, Node DB is one of the sites you can go to in order to find them.

EZGoal Hotspots

www.ezgoal.com/hotspots/wireless

Another site that deals in wireless access point databases, this site is more difficult to navigate, but seems to have a richer data set.
