Shading is another technique you can use to draw your reader’s attention. Shading appears when you print your document; if you do not use a color printer, make sure you select a shade of gray for your shading.
Select the text that you want to shade.
Click Format.
Click Borders and Shading.
The Borders and Shading dialog box appears.
Click the Shading tab.
The colors you can select for shading appear here.
Click the color you want to use to shade the selected text.
This area shows you how the shading will look.
Click OK.
Word applies the shading you chose to the selected text.
How can I remove paragraph shading?
You can remove shading by clicking or by repeating steps 1 to 5, clicking No Fill in step 5, and then clicking OK.
Can I apply a pattern along with shading?
Yes, you can, but exercise caution. A pattern alone can make the selected text difficult to read; adding both a pattern and a shading color may make the text completely illegible.
