When you present lists in your documents, you can use bullets or numbers to call attention to them.
Use numbers when the items in your list follow a particular order. Use bullets when the items in your list do not follow any particular order.
Select the text to which you want to assign bullets or numbers.
Click Format.
Click Bullets and Numbering.
The Bullets and Numbering dialog box appears.
Click the tab for the type of list you want to create.

Click the style of bullets or numbers you want to use.
Click OK.
Bullets or numbers appear at the left edge of each selected list item.
Click anywhere outside the selection to continue working.
To remove bullets or numbers, click the Undo icon (), or repeat steps 1 to 6, selecting None in step 5.
Select the text to which you want to assign bullets or numbers.
Click the Numbering icon () or the Bullets icon ().
Word applies numbers or bullets to the selection.
Can I create a bulleted or numbered list as I type?
Yes, you can do either one.
Type 1. followed by a space to create a numbered list or* followed by a space to create a bulleted list.
Type the first list item.
Press .
Word automatically adds a bullet or number for the next list item.
Repeat steps 2 to 3 for each list item; to stop entering items in the list, press twice.
