Chapter 4: Proofreading

Now that you have entered your text into your document, it is time to check your text. This chapter shows you how to handle proofreading tasks in Word.

Search for Text

Occasionally, you need to search for a word or phrase in a document. You may also need to change that word or phrase. Using Find and Replace, you can search and substitute as needed.

Does the location of the insertion point matter when I start searching?

No. Word searches from the location of the insertion point down through the end of the document and then, if necessary, continues searching from the beginning of the document. The search ends when Word reaches the location of the insertion point where the search began.

How can I make Word find “the” without finding “theology”?

You need to limit the search to whole words only. In the Find and Replace window, click More; the button name changes to Less, and the window expands to show additional options. Click the check box beside Find whole words only (image from book changes to image from book).
