Insert a Symbol


Using the Symbol feature, you can insert characters into your documents that do not appear on your keyboard.

  1. Click the location in the document where you want the symbol to appear.

  2. Click Insert.

  3. Click Symbol.

    The Symbol dialog box appears.

  4. Click here and select a font from which to select a symbol.

    The available symbols change to match the font you selected.

  5. Click a symbol.

  6. Click Insert.

  7. Click Close to close the Symbol dialog box.

I use a particular symbol frequently; is there an easy way to insert it?

Yes. You assign a keyboard shortcut. Then, you can position the insertion point in the desired place and press the key combination to place the symbol.

  1. In the Symbol dialog box, shown in this section, click Shortcut Key.

  2. In the Customize Keyboard dialog box that appears, press image from book or image from book and any other key.

  3. Make sure the combination is unassigned in the selected template.

  4. Click Assign.

  5. Click Close in the Customize Keyboard and Symbol dialog boxes.

    The keyboard shortcut is assigned and ready to use.
