Switch Between Open Documents


If you have two or more documents open, you can switch between them using the Word menus or the Windows Taskbar.

If buttons representing each open document do not appear on the Windows Taskbar, you can set options to display them.

SWITCH USING THE WINDOW MENU

  1. Click Window.

    A list of all open documents appears at the bottom of the menu.

  2. Click the document you want to view.

    The selected document appears.

    image from book You also can switch documents by clicking their Windows Taskbar buttons.

DISPLAY BUTTONS ON THE TASKBAR

  1. Click Tools.

  2. Click Options.

    The Options dialog box appears.

  3. Click the View tab.

  4. Click the Windows in Taskbar option (image from book changes to image from book).

  5. Click OK.

    Word saves your settings, and buttons for each open document appear in the Windows Taskbar.

I have several documents open and I want to switch to a specific document, but I do not see buttons for all of the open documents on the Windows Taskbar. What should I do?

The buttons are there; the Windows Taskbar stacks them.

  1. Click image from book to view additional buttons for open documents.

  2. Place the mouse pointer on a button.

    image from book A screen tip containing the document’s name appears.

  3. Click a document to switch documents.
