Exiting the Program

When you're finished using Quattro Pro, you can close the program by clicking the X in the upper-right corner or by opening the File menu and clicking the Exit command.

If you have made any changes to any open notebooks, Quattro Pro will prompt you to save them; see Chapter 3, "Navigating in a Notebook," for details on saving notebooks.

The Absolute Minimum

In this chapter, I covered the basics you need to begin to work effectively in Quattro Pro. I've covered most of the language and terminology you need to understand electronic spreadsheets. You should now know the following:

  • Both paper and electronic spreadsheets contain rows and columns of information, and that the information can be numbers or text information.

  • You can choose to work in Lotus 1-2-3 mode, Excel mode, or Quattro Pro mode.

  • How to open and close menus and how to use toolbar buttons as shortcuts for menu commands.

  • How to use the Help available with Quattro Pro.

You know what cell addresses are, and you know that spreadsheets can be very powerful because you can store calculations that operate on cell addresses instead of specific values, giving you the ability to change values and have calculations automatically update. You also know that you can chart information based on numbers you enter into Quattro Pro. With this foundation, you're ready to start finding your way around Quattro Pro.
