Acknowledgements

First, Andre' LaMothe made his book possible. I've known Andre for some years now since his first book, Game Programming Gurus, was published. Andre' is a big kid who is very humble even though he is one of the most intelligent people in the computer industry. He's seen this industry grow from a small group of individuals and watched computer-based games develop into a multibillion-dollar industry. He's never too busy to answer a question or two and, for me, that's a very big plus. I would like to personally thank him for coming to me and proposing a photon mapping book.

Second, I would like to thank all the people from Premier Press who stood by me through this book. I would like to thank Mitzi Koontz for being a sweetheart in working with my busy schedule. I would like to also thank Kezia Endsley for editing my book so that it would make sense. She helped bring meaning to my words and I'm very grateful.

Third, I would like to thank Harry Siegel for helping on the copy edits. I've worked with him for many years now and have great respect for his command of the English language.

Fourth, I would like to thank Brian Smith for his in-depth insight into pho-ton mapping. This book wouldn't be possible if it weren't for his help in getting portions of the code to work properly. I am very thankful for his contributions.

Fifth, I would like to thank Adrian Perez ( Advanced 3d Game Programming with DirectX 2002 ) for letting me use his color3 structure.

The people in my life are very important to me. To my mom Victoria, dad Lucius, brother Marvin, and my two sisters Simone and Shawna, I would like to thank you for being in my life.

A very important person to me was Frank Willemsen, who was nice enough to teach me how to write my first 3D engine. He took time out of his busy schedule to teach me important parts of Wolfenstein and Quake. Even though he lives in the Netherlands, I feel he's one of my closest friends . He's getting married soon and I would like to say congrats!

Finally, the most significant event that's impacted my career was being given the opportunity to work in a corporate environment at the young age of 16, so I would like to thank Dominic Mignogno, Gala Miller, Brian Colins, and Larry Shirley for being my work family.
