The WS-EventNotification specification is in development and is expected to extend aspects of several standards, including those described next: WS-Notification and WS-Eventing.
Document: | Web Services Base Notification and related specifications |
Purpose: | To specify how an SOA runtime product handles a publish-and-subscribe pattern between a requester (which acts as a subscriber, asking to be notified of an event) and a service (which sends the requested detail when the event occurs, either directly or by way of a separate software unit called a notification broker). An event could be (for example) a printer failure or the addition of an entry in an online forum. WS-Notification provides support for large-scale or complicated applications. |

Document: | Web Services Eventing (WS-Eventing) |
Purpose: | To specify how an SOA runtime product handles a publish-and-subscribe pattern between a requester (which acts as a subscriber, asking to be notified of an event) and a service (which sends the requested detail when the event occurs). WS-Eventing is a relatively simple publish-and-subscribe specification. |
