The Web Services-Unified Management (WS-UM) specification is in development and is expected to extend aspects of several standards, including those described next: Web Services Distributed Management (WSDM) and WS-Management.
Document: | Web Services Distributed Management (several specifications) |
Purpose: | To specify how one Web service can communicate with a second Web service that in turn accesses a resource such as a printer or storage disk. The first service might receive status information (to determine whether a printer is low on toner, for example) or might control the device remotely (as by shutting off an overheating storage disk). A Web service can itself be treated as a resource. If a Web service (a resource) processes customer orders, for example, another service might seek information on the number of orders that were handled in recent hours. |
