Lean Software Development

Lean Software Development, or LSD (what a suggestive acronym!), is the application of Lean Thinking to software design, programming, project management, and contracts. Its roots originate from the Lean Manufacturing concept of W. Edwards Demming, who pioneered just-in-time development in the manufacturing industry.

LSD is described in an article written by Mary Poppendieck [Poppendieck2001], and, like ASD, it is presently more a set of good project management practices than a definite process. For this reason, I strongly suggest reading the referenced article on LSD, and I rank LSD on the same level as the Crystal methodologies and ASD as a choice.
