Introduction


The first portion of this chapter summarizes the opinions of senior students about the use of Extreme Programming in a software engineering class and the use of pair programming in an introductory programming course. The second portion of the chapter describes the perceptions of students who participated in a pilot study of the feasibility of using pair programming early in a computer science curriculum.

This chapter does not discuss the value of Extreme Programming or pair programming per se. Instead, it provides insight into the minds of those who will be directly affected if either of these topics becomes an important component of the curriculum. The students' opinions show considerable insight.
