About the Authors

Shaun Smith was an early adopter during the object-oriented software development process formulation era, survived the process wars era, and helped companies adapt during the process alliance era. Presently, he's enjoying the agile era enormously, assisting companies in adopting agile methods and building frameworks to accelerate test-first development. He has been with ClearStream Consulting for eight years and is chief technical architect there. He has presented at OOPSLA, Smalltalk Solutions, XP2001, and XP2002.

Gerard Meszaros is chief scientist at ClearStream Consulting, where he leads teams applying advanced software development techniques (such as Extreme Programming) to help ClearStream's clients achieve faster and higher-quality systems solutions. He helps clients apply object and component technology to a variety of problem domains, including telecommunication, e-commerce, and gas transportation. Previously, he served as chief architect of several major projects at Nortel Networks' R&D subsidiary, Bell Northern Research. He has had patterns published in each of the first three PLOPD books, and has been invited to serve on panels, conduct workshops, and present papers and tutorials at several OOPSLA and other conferences. Gerard uses patterns actively in designing software and in mentoring software developers in good software design practices.
