Focusing on the Wrong Features

It's very easy to be impressed by the ornate carvings and decorations that were accomplished in time for the launch. Clearly a lot of resources went into this work. It turns out that this was not just a matter of decoration; the function of this artwork was to impress and overawe Sweden's Baltic neighbors. And they might have served this function had the ship stayed afloat. This detail is a good example of "featuritis" defeating robustness.
