Personal Acknowledgments

Paul First, to my beautiful wife Christine and kids, Max and Adam: thanks for your loving support and patience. To Mom, Dad, Bob, Marian, Jeff, Nick, Gladys, Nick III, Jeanette, Louise, Gina, and Suzie: thanks for encouraging me. To Bart, Tank, Eric, and Dean: thanks for being great friends and for your advise on this book. To Barry, Gabrielle, Gary, and Andy: thanks for helping me understand the book business and your support. Finally, thanks to Chris, Kent, Rob, and Jim for their extreme efforts and perseverance. We did it!

Chris I would like to acknowledge, first and foremost, my wife, Carolyn Maynard. Both of my kids, Jeremy and Emily Ellison, showed amazing amount of patience throughout this endeavor. I'd also like to thank Jerry Saunders, US Library of Congress, for teaching me the joy of programming; and Vint Cerf, MCI, for taking me under his wing in the early days of TCP/IP. I would like to dedicate this book to my parents, who always encouraged me to explore.

Rob I'd personally like to thank first and foremost my family: my wife Terri, and my children Lauren and Evan. They were very supportive of me and gave me the time, especially on weekends, to work on this book and to achieve this personal goal of mine. I'd also like to thank my manager at Cisco, Drew Powell, for giving me the time during the week to work on my chapters, especially as deadlines approached. He has continued to motivate and challenge me technically as well as personally.

Kent I want to give my heartfelt thanks to my family my wife Catherine and my two sons Julian and Samuel for putting up with me while I spent all too many hours plinking away my laptop. Without their support my contribution to this book would not have been possible.

Jim I want to thank my family from the bottom of my heart for the sacrifices they made on behalf of this book. My wife, Sarah, particularly deserves special thanks for putting up with my frequent absence from our life and my daughter Jamie who put off her scuba diving with me while I worked on the book.
