Chapter 6 -- Performing an Upgrade

Chapter 6

About This Chapter

This chapter outlines the strategy required for a Microsoft Windows NT domain upgrade and then leads you step by step through the actual process of upgrading the Windows NT PDC, which was configured in earlier chapters. Once you've completed the upgrade, the chapter covers some of the issues involved in working in a transition mode prior to completing the upgrade of your network. Follow this chapter with Chapter 7, "Transitioning an Upgrade to Native Mode," which guides you through further transitional issues and will finalize the upgrade of the domain by upgrading the Windows NT BDC.

This chapter is important to those directly involved in the performance of a Windows NT server upgrade. It covers planning for an upgrade and details the steps to follow to take a Windows NT domain configuration and upgrade it to a Windows 2000 infrastructure.
