The UN-16 Unison

The UN-16 is a delay and tuning phase effect that copies, delays, and detunes multiple voices, then spreads them about the stereo field. It sounds great with very little fussing.

With a mono signal going in and stereo outputs, the UN-16 will add stereo width to a mono sound. When stereo inputs/outputs are used, it can "thicken" a stereo sound with an effect similar to chorus.

To use the UN-16 to add stereo width to a mono source

1.

Use the Create > UN-16 Unison command with an instrument selected for an insert effect or with your Mixer selected for a master effect (Figure 8.70).

Figure 8.70. The UN-16 Unison copies, delays, and detunes multiple voices, then spreads them about the stereo field.

2.

Play your track and adjust the number of voices using the Voice Count button (Figure 8.71).

Figure 8.71. The Voice Count button sets how many copies of the incoming signal will be made.

3.

Use the Detune knob to set how much detuning you want (Figure 8.72).

Figure 8.72. The Detune knob thickens the effect.

More detuning results in a thicker sound between all the voices.

4.

Adjust the Dry/Wet knob to mix the dry signal with the added detuned voices.

If you are using the UN-16 as a send effect through your Mixer's Aux channels, set the Dry/Wet knob to maximum (right), since your Mixer channel's Aux Send will handle the dry/wet mix for you.
