Creating a Web Journal

A web journal is basically a collection of webpages that feature images with extended captions. It can have one or more index pages that display thumbnails of images; viewers can click a thumbnail to see the image in detail. You can control the size and the grouping of the images on the index pages, as well as of the accompanying text. Our web journal will have an opening index or title page, as well as an index page for each location, for a total of four pages. We'll use the text to explain the logistical issues of shooting in each location.

1.

Control-click the Five Star Locations Smart Album in the Projects panel and choose New From Selection > Web Journal.

A window appears asking whether you want to create the web journal from the first selected image in the Browser or from all of the images in the Smart Album.

2.

Click Create With All Images.

Tip

You can also create a web journal album by selecting images in the Browser and then choosing New Web Journal From Selection from the Projects panel Add to Library pop-up menu.

A new, untitled web journal album appears in the Projects panel, and the Webpage Editor appears in place of the Viewer.

Note

Any item you create while the Projects panel is displaying favoritesincluding our new web journal albumautomatically becomes a favorite, too.

3.

Name the untitled web journal album Locations Journal and then press Return.

4.

Press Command-Option-V to switch to the Maximize Viewer layout, which hides the Projects panel and control bar, reduces the Browser, and provides a large space to work in the Webpage Editor.

The Webpage Editor has numerous panels and controls for creating pages and working with images in a web journal album. So let's get started using it.
