Rating Stacked Images

Rating stacked images, such as our South Beach images, isn't much different from rating unstacked images.

1.

Press the W key to reveal the Projects panel, select the South Beach project, and then press W again to close the Projects panel.

2.

Drag the Thumbnail Resize slider so that each stack of three bracketed images fits the width of the Browser.

The leftmost image in the stack is the pick, but in this caseand often in the real worldyou want to rate more than just the pick.

3.

Select the SoBe_2005 36 of 50 image.

4.

Press the backslash key (\) to make this image a select.

5.

Select SoBe_2005 14 of 50 in the Browser and press the backslash key (\) to make it a select.

6.

Navigate to and rate the following additional South Beach images as selects: SoBe_2005 3 of 50, SoBe_2005 4 of 50, SoBe_2005 6 of 50, SoBe_2005 24 of 50, SoBe_2005 27 of 50, SoBe_2005 39 of 50, and SoBe_2005 48 of 50.

That was easy. Be aware, however, that if you use the Query HUD to filter the images that appear in the Browser so that only selects are visible, Aperture will display only those five-star images that are also picks. It will not display five-star images that are alternates in a stack.

Filter images in the Browser? Query HUD? What are we talking about? you wonder. The Query HUD (HUD stands for heads-up display) is an easy-to-use panel that lets you search for images. Using the Query HUD, you can search images by text, rating, keyword, date, IPTC information, EXIF information, or a combination of any of these criteria. You can also use the Query HUD to filter what you are viewing in the Browser based on image metadata. You'll learn more about filtering and querying in "Lesson 8, Advanced Organization and Rating."
