Answers

1.

The Import arrow allows you to choose the source and destination of your imported images. Aperture displays the Import arrow from the source location in the Import panel to the destination in the Projects panel. You can point the arrow to existing projects or albums, or you can create a new, untitled project as your destination by pointing to the Library.

2.

When you import an iPhoto Library, Aperture preserves the album structure, image filenames, EXIF metadata, keywords, ratings, and any adjustments you've applied to the images. Aperture does not touch your original iPhoto Library; it simply copies images and data.

3.

No, you cannot rename images as you import them from iPhoto. You can, however, change the naming once the images are imported.

4.

Aperture offers the capability to stack images before or after importing them as a way to organize series of similar digital images. You can auto-stack images while importing them, or stack automatically or manually afterward. When you auto-stack images while importing them, Aperture uses the timestamp metadata to group images that are shot up to one minute apart. Stacking is just a way of grouping your images for viewing purposes; it doesn't affect where they are stored within your Aperture Library.
