Answers

1.

You can open Aperture by double-clicking the Aperture application icon, by defining Aperture as your default image application and double-clicking an image, or by clicking the Aperture application icon in the Dock (after you manually add it to the Dock).

2.

When you open Aperture for the first time, Aperture prompts you to set it as the default application for your digital camera. You can also set Aperture as your default image-capture application by choosing Aperture > Preferences. In the Preferences dialog, choose "When a camera is connected, open" > Aperture, if it is not already chosen. Then, close the Preferences window.

3.

The Project Management layout provides a large view of the Browser and closes all panels except the Projects panel, making it easy to select and work with multiple projects. You can quickly open different projects in the Projects panel and make changes as needed. To display the Project Management layout, click the Project Management Layout button in the toolbar, or press Command-Option-M.

4.

The Camera RAW image format contains the unprocessed "raw" data from a camera's image sensor. The RAW format allows up to 16 bits of color to be stored, or 65,536 colors per channel, and contains additional, specific information about when and how a frame was shot, called metadata. There is no one RAW standard. RAW files have different nuances from manufacturer to manufacturer. Aperture supports most of the major RAW variants, including CR2, CRW, DNG, NEF, and OLY, and Apple will continue to expand support as new RAW versions appear.

5.

To change the Aperture Library, choose Aperture > Preferences. Then click the Set button under the Library Location field and choose your new Library. Quit Aperture and then reopen it to access the new Library. You might want to use different Libraries when you plan to archive images differently, such as for current jobs versus completed jobs, or for your own images versus someone else's images.
