Customizing the Workspace

Although these preset layouts are very useful in Aperture, you don't have to be limited by them. You can selectively display and hide just about any interface element to suit your needs. Finding a layout that works for you, and knowing how to open and close panels quickly with keyboard shortcuts, will greatly enhance your work experience and make you more productive in Aperture. For a quick refresher of shortcut keys, refer to the following figure.

1.	Press Command-Option-S to return to the Standard layout.
2.	Press the I key to display the Adjustments and Metadata Inspectors.
3.	Press the W key to hide the Projects panel.
4.	Press the V key to hide the Viewer.
5.	Press Shift-D to hide the control bar.
6.	Press W, then Shift-D to bring back the Projects panel and the control bar.
7.	Press Command-Option-S to return to the Standard layout.
8.	Press Option-W to flop the Browser and Viewer positions.
9.	Press Shift-W to rotate the Browser to the right. Taking time to learn these shortcuts is a good way to quickly increase your productivity in Aperture. Until you memorize them, however, note that most of these commands are also available in the Window menu. In addition to the keyboard shortcuts available for customizing the interface, Aperture offers numerous other shortcuts that can dramatically speed your productivity as you perform routine tasks. These shortcuts are also worth memorizing. To help you become more familiar with them, we will use them increasingly throughout this book.
