Certification of IS Professionals

Certification is necessary to confirm the completion of a certain educational program and the quality of the training. However, according to the KPMG report [KPMG1-02], 73% of IS specialists have no special certificate. Currently, there are two different certification schemes for security specialists that are similar to the training schemes. The first scheme is not associated with any specific product and covers various specific aspects of security technology. Certifications of this type include Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) and GIAC Security Engineer.

Certifications associated with the second scheme relate to specific products solution offered by different companies. This approach is common for many companies, including ISS, Cisco, CheckPoint, and others.

There are also mixed or combined certification schemes.
