Seminars and Conferences

Seminars and conferences are a more traditional education format, enabling specialists to become acquainted with new achievements in the field of security. Note that this form of education is relatively inexpensive, and sometimes even free. Recently, there have been more and more such conferences, and so I will list only the most effective and best-known ones:

  • SANS Network Security yearly international conference. Like other SANS projects, this one has a practical orientation. The conference has several sections dedicated to different aspects of the information-security question. Typical topics include information-security basics, firewalls, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), intrusion detection, response to incidents, network and system audits, Windows security and UNIX security. Beside the sections listed above, SANS Network Security conducts various training courses, including those dedicated to various hacking utilities.

  • Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection (RAID) yearly international conference. This conference (http://www.raid-symposium.org/) is the first to be devoted solely to intrusion detection technologies. The conference is supported by representatives from universities and government and commercial organizations from a large number of countries from around the world.

  • ISS Connect yearly international conference. This conference is rather similar to the previous ones, since it is also divided into different areas: organization security for top management, intrusion detection and incident response, risk analysis and development of security policy, etc.

  • Computer Security Conference yearly international conference. This conference, conducted by the Computer Security Institute (CSI) also has several sections, each being dedicated to a specific area of information security.
