DARPA sponsors quite a large number of perspective projects in the field of intrusion detection. In particular, besides the CIDF standard, the UC Davis Computer Security Lab, in cooperation with the Boeing Corporation, is developing the IDIP protocol (Intruder Detection and Isolation Protocol), intended for interaction between intrusion detection systems, firewalls, and routers. Like many other projects coordinated by DARPA, this project is unlikely to be used anywhere outside US governmental organizations. Also, there is very little information concerning this project.
