Song Identification

KPIG's Web site provides an online playlist detailing the programming history of the previous week, a useful feature. Local listeners to the terrestrial broadcast can check KPIG's Web site after hearing a song and find out what it was up to seven days after the fact. The playlist information is posted to the Web site from the DJ's selection computer as each song is played. As each song starts to play, the system creates a new version of the playlist and uploads it to the Web server. When songs are played manually (CD, cassette, phonograph, live in-studio performance), the DJ manually enters the artist and song title information.

The Hiwire encoder is fed a listing of what song is currently playing so that the song can display in the listener's Windows Media player application window. KPIG is working through details to add this same feature to its other format streams.
