As steps go, this deployment is a fairly crucial one. Designing the perfect page for Contribute users is of little value if there are no Contribute users to work with it. There is little chance that you'll be in complete control of rolling out Contribute to your company's user base. More likely is that if your organization is above a certain size, it will include an information technology (IT) department charged with handling these chores. However, the chances of your being directly involved in the rollouteven if your job responsibilities are as Web designerare very good. Your knowledge of the site, individual pages, and even the Web page's component partsincluding Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) styles, images, server-side includes (SSIs), library items, and Macromedia Flash movies need to be conveyed to the user throughout the process. Contribute is capable of automatically generating an email message, complete with attached connection key, when you assign a group of users to a specific role. The rollout can be divided into three phases: installation, training, and support. It's not enough to just install Contribute on an administrative assistant's computer and email a connection key. Any new user needs some basic training on what Contribute can do and how it works. Although the interface is designed to be as user-friendly and accessible as possible, each content con tributor will have a learning curve. Furthermore, the longer people work with Contribute, the more uses they'll find for itand that requires ongoing support. In this lesson, you'll learn techniques that will prove beneficial to you in facilitating each of the rollout phases. Note Due to the administrative nature of this chapter, most of the step-by-step instructions cannot be carried out in a class situation. But you can use these instructions when rolling out Contribute for your organization. |
