Share Music over your Network with iTunes

Task #88

Difficulty Level 1

With iTunes and a network, you can turn your Mac into a jukebox without doing much work at all. iTunes is already a sort of jukebox for your personal music, but iTunes also has a great sharing feature that lets you listen to music on any Mac on the network.

After you activate iTunes sharing, you can listen to music that is located on other Macs on your network. Likewise, other Macs can listen to your music. The Source list of the iTunes interface lists the shared tunes and even displays the other users’ playlists.

Customize It

Because iTunes shares your playlists, you might consider other possible uses for them. For example, you can make a playlist customized for each member of your family or your coworkers at the office. Further, by activating and deactivating playlists in the Sharing pane of the iTunes Preferences window, you can restrict which elements of your library that you want to share.
