Difficulty Level 4
Unlike Windows, Mac OS X does not include an Add/Remove Applications utility; most Macintosh developers follow the rule “One folder for each application.” All the data files, and the application program itself, reside in a single folder, and usually all you need to do is delete that folder to uninstall the application.
There are exceptions — so follow the steps shown here each time you delete a Mac OS X application folder. Search for any Preference or data files that remain in other locations and delete them to save space on your hard drive.
Did You Know? | A number of shareware and commercial utilities can also perform the uninstall job; the best-known is probably Spring Cleaning from Aladdin Systems (www.aladdinsystems.com), which also removes Internet browser cache files and fixes broken aliases. The application even includes a Restore feature that can restore files that you have deleted by accident. |
