Force a Program to Quit

Task #65

Difficulty Level 1

On rare occasions, an application may freeze or lock up, so you cannot use the familiar z+Q shortcut to quit. For example, games are a prime candidate for lockups. A locked-up application may make you nervous — especially if you have important documents open in other applications — but rest easy! Panther keeps each application that you are running separate from other applications, so if a game crashes or your video-editing application locks up, you can terminate the misbehaving program without losing your other open documents.

Caution

Forcing an application to quit causes you to lose any unsaved changes you have made to the documents that application was using. Always make sure that an application is definitely locked up (instead of just hard at work calculating something) before you force it to quit.
