Do you share your Mac with others — perhaps in an office or a classroom environment? If so, you are likely to be stuck sitting idle while another user finishes a session. With Panther’s new fast-user-switching feature, however, you can log in temporarily even if someone is already logged in with another account — perhaps to just print one of your documents or quickly check your e-mail. When you are finished, the original user can switch back to the original session without losing any documents or shutting down any applications.

Did You Know?

To turn on fast user switching, use an Admin-level account to open System Preferences. Open the Accounts pane, click the Login Options button, and click the Enable Fast User Switching check box. Panther displays the current user at the right side of the Finder menu whenever fast user switching is turned on.
