Reducing Noise


Aperture provides a Noise Reduction adjustment (Figure 5.63) that allows you to reduce, but usually not eliminate, the noise in an image. The Noise Reduction adjustment provides two parameters.

Radius controls the strength of the effect. The Radius slider controls the number of pixels that Aperture analyzes when it's looking for noise. Pixels with sudden luminance or chrominance changes are blurred or averaged to reduce noise. Unfortunately, this process can result in a loss of detail in your image. Move the slider to the right to reduce noise, but keep an eye on the detail in your image. Your goal is to reduce noise without too much loss of detail.

Edge Detail controls the amount of the edge detail that is preserved. Aperture tries to avoid softening hard edges, to preserve as much fine detail as possible.
