This Chapter provides an overview of installing and using additional Unix software on your Mac OS X system. Apple Developer Tools and X11 were installed, bridging the gap between traditional Macintosh functionality and Unix. Fink and the GUI-based FinkCommander were introduced as tools to use for installing Unix software and keeping it up to date. Readers should have a familiarity with some useful Unix programs and know how to install new programs on their own. http://sourceforge.net and http://freshmeat.net are both great places to find new software to install for a variety of needs and interests.
