What You ve Learned

What You've Learned

  • Mac OS X uses standards throughout the operating system. These standards enable Macintosh computers to integrate into networks and share data and peripherals with other computers.

  • Mac OS X 10.4 can install on any Macintosh computer with a G3 processor or later that also has a DVD drive, built-in FireWire, a minimum of 256 MB of memory, and 3 GB of available disk space.

  • Before you install Mac OS X, you need to make key decisions about how you want to configure the system, including if you want to partition your drive or not. If you are upgrading from Mac OS 9, you should also note your network configuration information so that you can use it when you configure Mac OS X.

  • After using Setup Assistant to do the initial configuration, you can use System Preferences to perform additional system configuration.

  • To ensure that your system is up-to-date, you should check for updates on a regular basis by choosing Apple > Software Update, or using Software Update preferences.

  • Use Knowledge Base to research known installation issues.
