Maya 5 Fundamentals was laid out and produced with the help of Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, and QuarkXPress on a variety of systems, including a Macintosh G4. With the exception of pages that were printed out for proofreading, all files text, images, and project files were transferred via email or FTP and edited onscreen. In addition, scene files were created with Alias's Maya 5, and CD movie files were created with Camtasia by TechSmith.

All body text is set in the Stone Serif family. All headings, figure captions, and cover text are set in the 2 Stone Sans family. The Symbol and Sean's Symbol typefaces were used through-out for special symbols and bullets.

Maya 5 Fundamentals was printed on 50# Utopia at R.R. Donnelley in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Prepress consisted of PostScript computer-to-plate technology (filmless process). The cover was printed on 12pt Carolina coated one side at Moore Langen Printing in Terre Haute, Indiana.
