Open the Format menu and select Font to open the Font dialog box. (Click the Font tab if it's not already displayed.)
Select from the Effects area options: Strikethrough, Double-strikethrough, Superscript, Subscript, Shadow, Outline, Emboss, Engrave, Small Caps, All Caps, and/or Hidden.
Click OK.
Begin typing. The font effects you chose in step 2 are applied to the text you type. (This figure shows the various font effect options available.)
INTRODUCTION
Effects you apply to your font can draw attention to important information. For example, if you wanted to indicate deleted text (without using revision marks), you could apply a strikethrough or double-strikethrough to your text. If you needed to display a power of 10 to the eighth, you could apply a superscript effect to the 8 to present it as an exponent (108); likewise, to display the water molecule as text, you could apply a subscript effect to lower the 2 in H2O. You can also apply any number of eye-catching effects. To apply font effects as you type, click the appropriate check box in the Font dialog box before you begin typing (as shown here). Alternatively, you can format existing text by selecting it and then choosing the desired options.
TIP
Effect Options
Consider using the Small Caps option to indicate time, as in 2PM. All Caps are good for EMPHASIS. Consider using Hidden when you don't want anyone to view what you have typed, so it is "for your eyes only."
