Click the Save button on the Standard toolbar; the Save As dialog box opens with a default name for the file.
Click the My Documents icon on the Places bar, or use the Save in drop-down list to move through the folder structure to save the file where you want.
Type a name for the document in the File Name field (initially, the filename defaults to the first line of text in the document) and click the Save button.
The document is saved; the filename you assigned now appears in the title bar.
INTRODUCTION
Until you save the document you are working on, it is not stored on disk. For this reason, it's a good practice to save your documents frequently as you work on them. After you save a document, you can retrieve it later to work on it again. You can save a document as many times as you like, even under another name.
TIP
Saving As a New Name
If, after you've saved a file, you need to save the document with a different name, open the File menu, and select Save As to open the Save As dialog box. Type a new filename in the File Name field and click Save. You now have two documents.
TIP
Converting File Formats
If you need to share a document with someone who uses a different word processor (or an older version of Word), click the Save As Type drop-down list box and select the alternative file type to convert your document.
