INTRODUCTION

Outlook manages many different folders for your email and other information. You can access these folders by clicking them in the Folder list or by using the Outlook bar. The Outlook bar is divided into sections that focus on the following: Outlook Shortcuts, Folder List, Notes, Tasks, Contacts, Calendar, and Mail.

TIP

Outlook Bar

You can decrease the Outlook bar display buttons so that you can see more options available to each Outlook task. Click the heavy blue bar above the Mail button and drag it larger (up) or smaller (down) to view more or less of the Outlook bar buttons.

TIP

Compact Folder Files

When you start to accumulate hundreds of emails saved in Outlook, it can affect your computer's performance (slow it down). One thing you can do is compact your folder files. To do so, click the Data File Management link (you might need to scroll down in the Folder List) to open the Outlook Data Files dialog box. Then, click the Settings button to open the Personal Folders options. In this dialog box, click the Compact Now button to shrink the size of your personal folder file on your hard drive.
