If the task pane isn't already visible in your application window, open the View menu and select Task Pane to display it.
The Open section of the task pane contains links to files you've recently worked on. Click a filename link to open it or click the Create a New link.
Click the down arrow at the top of the task pane to view the other available task panes.
Click the task pane's Close button, located at the top of the pane, to close it.
INTRODUCTION
If you recently installed Office, the task pane might be displayed when you start an Office application. The task pane simply offers additional ways for you to quickly perform common tasks, get help, find files, and much more. As you work in Office, additional task panes become active depending on which tasks you are performing.
TIP
Resizing the Task Pane
You can decrease the size of a task pane to increase your work area. Simply move the mouse pointer over the leftmost edge of the task pane; when the pointer changes to a two-pointed arrow, click and drag it to the left or right.

Available Task Panes
Performing certain actions in Office activates a particular task pane. For example, if you copy data, a Clipboard task pane will be activated. If you insert clip art into an Office document, the Clip Art task pane will appear.
