This chapter's objectives are to define the options and technical implementations for the various IP Multicast routing options available to enterprises for typical IP virtual private network (VPN) deployments. Where routing is the cornerstone of every IP network, IP Multicast is the inverse. In other words, it's no longer the "where I'm going" world of routing, but now about "where I came from" in the multicast world. This chapter looks at the requirements for supporting the converged world of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) VPNs and how the use of MPLS requires consideration of IP Multicast usage in the enterprise. The aim of this chapter is to provide a deployable set of policies that the enterprise can use as guidelines. You'll also see how to address these to the service provider. Specifically, the case study addresses the IP Multicast needs of Acme, Inc. For further study of IP Multicast, read Developing IP Multicast Networks by Beau Williamson. It covers IP Multicast in depth. |
