Section 7.6. Conclusion

7.6. Conclusion

It doesn't do much good to design a communication application that can't deliver the media to the end users in an efficient manner. The best-designed application will fail miserably if the media isn't properly prepared. Even if you aren't responsible for creating the video and audio files, in order to master FlashCom application development, you must also understand media preparation and delivery. This understanding allows you to determine whether the programming or the media, or a combination of the two, is at fault when an application does not perform as it should.

This chapter has covered many details for compressing and streaming audio and video. It should put you in good stead creating efficient, media-centric communications applications. In Chapter 17, we revisit bandwidth considerations to make sure your client's connection is not overtaxed. In the next chapter, we shift gears to talk about shared objects, which offer a way to transmit data to and from the server.
