To automate any software build and release process, a number of tools need to be installed and configured. It is therefore beneficial to start by identifying the complete set of tools, their relationships, and how they work at a high level. After reading this chapter you will

• Know where to find more detailed information on the tools.

• Understand the basics of IBM Rational ClearCase in both Base ClearCase and UCM forms.

Each of these tools is discussed in detail throughout this book. If you already understand the basics of these tools, and you simply want to know how to configure them, you can skip this chapter.
