Chapter 1. importing and organizing photos

The first week you get a digital camera, you experience the freedom of taking dozens of pictures, in the hope that you capture the perfect shot. The second week, with hundreds of pictures under your belt, you begin to worry how you're going to find those pictures of your son's birthday party. The third week you're saved: you find iPhoto.

iPhoto is an excellent digital photo organizer. In this chapter, you'll learn how to bring photos into iPhoto from your digital camera, from your email, and from the folders on your computer (where you may have stored digital images that you scanned in from printed photographs).

Next, you'll learn how to label your photos, add descriptions, mark them with keywords, and give them ratings. iPhoto then offers powerful tools for searching through both the information you've added as well as the date information that was provided by your camera.
