Keeping It Current

Ensuring that you always have the most current version of BIND is not as hard as it could be. You can keep an eye on the FTP site, of course, but that could grow tedious. Subscribing to the BIND announce list is the most recommended way. Depending on how much time you have for your hostmaster duties, you might also want to peruse newsgroups or their mailing list counterparts. You can learn a lot from the following resources:

Newsgroup Mailing List Topic
comp.protocols.dns.bind bind-users Using BIND.
N/A bind-announce BIND announcements.
comp.protocols.dns.std namedroppers-request@internic.net DNS standards.
comp.protocols.dns.ops N/A DNS operations.
N/A bind-bugs@isc.org Send bug reports here.

The ISC hosts the first two of the previous list. You will find a subscription and un-subscription form on the BIND home page. The announce list is very low volume, but the others are high volume. The address given for the namedroppers list is the subscribe address. If you want to ask a question, it likely has been answered again and again recently. It is polite to use a search engine, such as http://www.deja.com/, to find earlier answers to your question before asking it on the list or newsgroup.
