About This Book

This is a book about DNS implemented with BIND, the most widespread implementation of DNS. This book specifically covers BIND 8, the latest production version of BIND, which runs on UNIX and NT. For several good reasons, this is the version of BIND that should be used by every BIND user.

Throughout the book you will find listings of configuration files. These files can be downloaded from the Internet at http://www.macmillanusa.com/que/concise/bind/ or http://langfeldt.net/dns/, where you also can find an errata, should any errors be discovered in this book.

Also, note that in all computer dialog listings in this book, the dollar sign ($) and hash symbol (#) both indicate a shell command-line prompt, as is traditional in UNIX texts.
