The Edit Menu

The Edit menu (Figures 32 and 33) includes commands for modifying the contents of a document. Here's a quick list of the commands you're likely to find, along with their standard keyboard equivalents:

  • Undo () reverses the last editing action you made.

  • Redo () reverses the last undo.

  • Cut () removes a selection from the document and puts a copy of it in the Clipboard.

  • Copy () puts a copy of a selection in the Clipboard.

  • Paste () inserts the contents of the Clipboard into the document at the insertion point or replaces selected text in the document with the contents of the Clipboard.

  • Clear or Delete removes a selection from the document. This is the same as pressing when document contents are selected.

  • Select All () selects all text or objects in the document.

Tips

  • Not all Edit menu commands are available in all applications at all times.

  • Edit menu commands usually work with selected text or graphic objects in a document.

  • Most Edit menu commands are discussed in greater detail in Chapter 9, which covers TextEdit.
