Recent Items


Mac OS automatically tracks the things you open. It creates submenus of the most recently opened items in four categoriesapplications, documents, servers, and foldersmaking it quick and easy to open them again.

Tip

  • You can specify how many recent applications and documents Mac OS X should track in the Recent Items submenu (Figure 37) by setting options in the Appearance preferences pane. I explain how in Chapter 21.

To open recent items

To open a recently used application, docu-ment, or server, choose its name from the Recent Items submenu under the Apple menu (Figure 37).

Or

To open a recently used folder, choose its name from the Recent Folders submenu under the Go menu (Figure 38).

Tips

  • Recent Items works with aliases, which are discussed earlier in this chapter.

  • Working with applications and documents is discussed in Chapter 7; working with servers is discussed in Chapter 16.


To clear the Recent Items submenu

Choose Apple > Recent Items > Clear Menu (Figure 37).

Tip

  • Clearing the Recent Items submenu does not delete any application or document files.


To clear the Recent Folders submenu

Choose Go > Recent Folders > Clear Menu (Figure 38).

Tip

  • Clearing the Recent Folders submenu does not delete any folders.
