The eBay Channel


The eBay channel (Figure 31) enables you to search for items available for sale on eBay, an online auction Web site. You enter search criteria, and Sherlock retrieves a list of found items from eBay. You can then track the auction within Sherlock or visit the auction's Web page, where you can bid on it.

To search for items on eBay

1.

Open the eBay channel and make sure the Search button is selected (Figure 31).

2.

Enter search criteria in the top part of the window, right beneath the toolbar.

3.

Click the magnifying glass button to start the search.

4.

After a moment, search results begin to appear. The first item is selected and information about it appears in the bottom half of the window (Figure 32).

5.

To see information about another item in the list, click it to select it.

6.

To get more information about an item, double-click it. Your Web browser launches and displays the item's page on eBay (Figure 33).

Tip

  • Use search criteria to narrow down the search. The more entries you make in the search criteria area, the fewer matches will appear in the list of matches.


To track an eBay auction item

1.

Select the item you want to track in the list of found items (Figure 32).

2.

Click the Track Listing button at the bottom of the Sherlock window.

3.

The item is added to the Track list in the eBay channel; click the Track button near the top of the window to see it (Figure 34).

Tip

  • Items you track on eBay remain in the Track list (Figure 34) until the auction is over.


To bid on an eBay item

1.

Double-click the item you want to bid on in the list of found items (Figure 32) or the list of items you are tracking (Figure 34) to display its Web page (Figure 33).

2.

Read the information on the page carefully.

3.

Enter your bid in the form near the bottom of the page.

  • You must have an account on eBay to bid on items. Setting up an account is free. Follow the instructions on the eBay Web site to learn more.
