Internet Applications

Mac OS X includes three applications for accessing the Internet:

• Mail is an Apple program that enables you to send and receive e-mail messages.

• iChat is an Apple program that enables you to exchange instant messages and conduct audio or video conferences with .Mac, AIM (AOL Instant Messenger), and Jabber users.

• Safari is an Apple program that enables you to browse Web sites and download files from FTP sites.

This section provides brief instructions for using these three programsjust enough to get you started. You can explore the other features of these programs on your own.

Tips

• Mail and Safari are set as the default e'mail and Web browser programs.

• Internet Explorer is a Microsoft program that enables you to browse Web sites and download files from FTP sites. Although Internet Explorer does not come with Mac OS X 10.4, it's quite popular. It can be downloaded from Microsoft's Mactopia Web site, www.mactopia.com.

To open an Internet application

Use one of the following techniques:

• Open the icon for the application in the Applications folder (Figure 37).

• Click the icon for the application in the Dock (Figure 41).
