Table Headings

A table heading consists of one or more rows that appear at the top of the table. If page breaks occur within a table, the table heading appears at the top of each page of the table (Figure 91).

Figure 91. If a page break splits a table into multiple pages, the headings appear at the top of each page of the table.

Tip

  • Setting a row as a table heading does not change its appearance. You must manually apply formatting or use the Table AutoFormat command to make headings look different from other data in the table. I tell you about formatting text in Chapters 3 and 4 and about the Table AutoFormat command on the next page.

To set a table heading

1.

Select the row(s) that you want to use as a table heading (Figure 92).

Figure 92. Select the row(s) that you want to use as a heading.

2.

Choose Table > Heading Rows Repeat (Figure 93).

Figure 93. Choose Heading Rows Repeat from the Table menu a second time to remove the heading feature from selected row(s).

The selected rows are set as headings.

To remove a table heading

1.

Select the row(s) that comprise the heading (Figure 92).

2.

Choose Table > Heading Rows Repeat (Figure 93).

The headings setting is removed from the selected rows.

Tip

  • Removing the heading feature from selected row(s) does not delete the row(s) from the table.
